Improv division Rules

Open to fiddlers of all ages

In addition to the General Contest Rules, the following rules apply to the Improv Division:

1. Entry blank must be completed and entry fee paid before participation.  A division is closed ½ hour before the division begins.
2. Contest committee officials will randomly select numbers for all contestants for order of appearance.  Contestant order will be posted approximately ½ hour before the division begins and the contestant must be ready to play when called.
3. The contestant may compete with only one instrument.
4. Contestants may play unaccompanied or with not more than 2 accompanists.
5. This division will consist of one tune of any type.
6. Playing time is limited to 3 minutes and 2 points will be deducted from the total score for each 10 second interval or portion thereof over the time limit.
7. Listeners should be able to discern the melody the first time through the tune; after that – anything goes.

Judging will be remote and there will be a maximum of 100 points possible from each judge.  Judging will be based on the following, although a total score will be given:

Rhythm 15 points
Production of Tone & Clarity 15 points
Intonation 15 points
Difficulty 15 points
Inventive and Tasteful Improv 40 points
