Columbia Gorge Fiddle Contest

In addition to the General Contest Rules, the following rules apply specifically to the Twin Fiddle Division:

Entry blank must be completed and entry fee paid before participation. A division is closed ½ hour before that division begins.

A contestant may enter this division only once. In other words, a contestant may not play twin fiddle with more than one other twin fiddler.

Fiddle Committee officials will randomly select numbers for all contestants for order of appearance. Contestant order will be posted approximately ½ hour before the division begins and the contestant must be ready to play when called.

There are 2 rounds in this division. In the preliminary round, the contestants must play 2 tunes, one slow and one fast, in no longer than 3 minutes. The top 5 contestants will play in the final round. The final round will consist of 1 tune played in no longer than 2 minutes. In the event of a tie, a different tune must be played, other than tunes this contestant has already played in the Twin Fiddle Division.

The 2 and 3 minute playing times will be strictly adhered to. Two points will be deducted from the total score for every 10 seconds or portion thereof over the 2 or 3 minutes respectively.

No more than 2 accompanists may be used. Accompanists may not play the melody of the tune.

Judging will be based on the following, for a total of 100 points possible for each tune:

Danceability and Rhythm	25 points
Appropriateness of Harmony	25 points
Intonation, Tone & Clarity	25 points
Difficulty	25 points

Judges will score each tune up to 100 points, keeping in mind the above categories.

Long passages of unison notes should be avoided. Points will be deducted if one player plays alone for more than a few notes.

Any pair of contestants winning the Twin Fiddle Division 3 years in a row may not compete in the Twin Fiddle Division the following year.
